We are building our team of clinicians who will provide clinical services for exotic animal patients in the Companion Animal Clinic and local external partners working with wildlife, aquatic, and zoo species. Faculty will participate in mentoring a specialty intern, in addition to teaching in the exotic animal medicine course and clinical skills labs within the DVM curriculum. All faculty members are expected to serve as clinical mentors for house officers and students.

Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM) is seeking an academic/clinical faculty member. This person will spend 0.4 FTE for the Department of Osteopathic Family and Community Medicine teaching clinical skills and/or NMM labs, lecturing, assisting with standardized patient testing of students, grading, and participating in clinical clerkship rotation recruitment and rotation site visits. The remaining 0.6 FTE will involve a clinical practice in the Family Medicine and/or Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Clinic of the Midwestern University (MWU) Multispecialty Clinic, depending in which specialty or specialties the faculty member has board certification.

Teaching

* Participate in curricular planning and review meetings, and faculty retreats.

* Develop, implement, and assess the curriculum as faculty in the pre-clinical courses.

* Teach clinical lectures, including developing the associated learning objectives and examination questions.

* Actively participate in the 4-year teaching program in AZCOM, which may include OMM labs, physical examination and ultrasound workshops, SOAP note grading, OSCE’s, and precepting in the MWU multispecialty clinic for students, Scholars, and residents.
* Assist with training for affiliated and sponsored GME programs.

* Assist in the development of standardized patient cases for examinations, as requested
* Proctor/Score Osteopathic Standardized Patient Examinations, as requested
* Assist in the remediation of students who fail OSCE Examinations and / or require assistance in preparation for COMLEX-USA examinations.
* Assist with rotation preceptor recruitment and site visits as requested/assigned.
* Develop/deliver faculty development and training to preceptors as requested.
* If NMM-certified, teach and mentor OMM Scholars and ONMM Residents, as part of the ONMM didactic series and Applied Master of Osteopathic Education (AMOE) program.

Scholarly Activity

* Actively engage in scholarly activities according to area(s) of expertise, to include osteopathic research, quality improvement projects, invited presentations at state and/or national conferences, publications, poster presentations, peer reviews, and national board question writing.
* Serve as a Project Investigator (PI) for students and residents engaging in scholarly work.

Service

* Mentor students requiring academic assistance and provide career counseling.
* Attend required meetings and serve on committees as assigned, which may include meetings/committees for the University, the Department of AZCOM Clinical Education, the Department of Osteopathic Family & Community Medicine, the ONMM residency, and the MWU Multispecialty Clinic.

* Participate in community relations efforts to extend and enhance the visibility and reputation of the Department, the College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Midwestern University
* Serve on state, regional, and/or national societies, agencies, bureaus, and committees of the profession and specialty or discipline.
* Provide osteopathic clinical supervision for the community care outreach activities of Health Outreach through Medical Education (HOME), as requested.
* Serve as advisor to student clubs as requested.
* Provide patient care in the Midwestern University Multispecialty Clinic.
* Participate in AZCOM applicant interviews.
* Remain current and board certified in your field of specialty.
* Maintain medical licensure in the state of Arizona.

Clinical Care Faculty

Education and/or Experience

The Clinical Care Faculty (CCF) must have earned a DDS/DMD degree. An Arizona License and DEA License are also required. The applicant should have a minimum of five (5) years in private/clinical practice environment. The applicant should be a person committed to educating and empowering students with a wide range of clinical and academic abilities. The applicant should be conversant in modern digital technologies, techniques, and dental materials.

Reporting to the Clinical Care Coordinator (CCC) of the respective suite, the CCF will:

* Advise the CCC on college-wide academic issues to assist in moving the institution to its vision of academic excellence
* Maintain an open-door policy on the part of administrators and faculty for students in need of counseling
* Establish a welcoming atmosphere to improve morale and to promote collegiality among students, staff and faculty
* Be a positive role model for students
* Become competent in the use of the EHR systems
* Become competent in the use of CAD/CAM dentistry
* Maintain/obtain a standard proficiency laser certification
* Demonstrate competency in the restoration of dental implants
* Demonstrate competency in the removal of teeth, both simple and complex, including skills such as: sectioning teeth, laying a flap, socket preservation, and suturing.
* demonstrate competency in simple and moderately complex endodontic procedures.
* Act as a leader and mentor
* Clinically supervise the students in the suite
* Meet with each student on a regular basis to review their clinical progress and individual patient treatment progress
* Identify and meet with students having difficulty as needed
* Be responsible for the attendance of students within the suite
* Address problems of faculty, staff and students conferring with the suite CCC
* Identify discrepancies in patient needs and patient assignments among the students
* Oversee and help manage student portfolios; this will include number of patients in each pair, percent of patients seen in given time, list of patients not receiving care within the last month, reason for non-activity, clinic attendance, broken appointment rate and general time management
* Along with the student, assume responsibility for patient selection and assignment of patients for students
* Offer students guidance and direction in care of patients by monitoring data on progress and performance
* Help CCCs with student productivity and attainment of competency
* Advise students on professional conduct and practice management and assist the faculty and staff of their suite with solving patient-related problems
* Meet periodically with individual students and groups of students to:
* Review practice plan
* Review patient resources
* Review individual and group progress
* Assist in establishing group goals
* Provide the CCC information (based on meetings with students and staff) necessary to assure equitable distribution of patients based on students’ needs
* Evaluate each student’s Professionalism and Practice Management skills by reporting instances of misconduct, patient abandonment, refusal to comply with established protocol, or disregard for the patients’ welfare first to the suite CCC and then to the Associate Dean for Clinical Education
* Report to the CCC, then the Associate Dean for Clinical Education instances when faculty or staff attempts to correct misconduct have failed
* Determine student compliance with departmental expectations and periodically review same with the student
* Assist all students in assigned suite with quality patient care
* Demonstrate clinical treatment on patients assigned to students
* Under the direction of the CCC, attempt to equalize student learning opportunities; this may be achieved by initial input into patient assignments and by redistribution of patients within the pool of patients as well as advise on priorities, use of time, and need for new patients
* In collaboration with the CCC, use EHR reports to inform faculty and students of the real costs of care delivery and establish realistic targets for production and collections in the spirit of sound practice management principles to enhance student education as well as clinical productivity
* Under the direction of the CCC, conduct an entrance conference with all new students to assess patient rosters and assure a smooth transition into the clinic
* Assure all case completions have an exit exam
* Assure all laboratory work is sent out and delivered in a timely fashion
* Perform other duties as assigned
* Meet regularly with the CCC

It is used to provide mobile spay and neuter surgeries, minor surgical procedures, wellness exams, minor medical procedures and field medical diagnostics. The FORTS fold-out shelter (“pop-up”) is a 16x16’ two-room portable building that operates as a community medicine clinic and animal holding space adjunctive to the mobile clinic. It is set up with three exam tables, two in the main area and one in the separate cat exam room. In addition, shelter medicine faculty work with regional partners in a number of shelter and community outreach facilities throughout the Phoenix Valley.

Clinical Care Faculty

Education and/or Experience

The Clinical Care Faculty (CCF) must have earned a DDS/DMD degree. An Arizona License and DEA License are also required. The applicant should have a minimum of five (5) years in private/clinical practice environment. The applicant should be a person committed to educating and empowering students with a wide range of clinical and academic abilities. The applicant should be conversant in modern digital technologies, techniques, and dental materials.

Reporting to the Clinical Care Coordinator (CCC) of the respective suite, the CCF will:

+ Advise the CCC on college-wide academic issues to assist in moving the institution to its vision of academic excellence

+ Maintain an open-door policy on the part of administrators and faculty for students in need of counseling

+ Establish a welcoming atmosphere to improve morale and to promote collegiality among students, staff and faculty

+ Be a positive role model for students

+ Become competent in the use of the EHR systems

+ Become competent in the use of CAD/CAM dentistry

+ Maintain/obtain a standard proficiency laser certification

+ Demonstrate competency in the restoration of dental implants

+ Demonstrate competency in the removal of teeth, both simple and complex, including skills such as: sectioning teeth, laying a flap, socket preservation, and suturing.

+ demonstrate competency in simple and moderately complex endodontic procedures.

+ Act as a leader and mentor

+ Clinically supervise the students in the suite

+ Meet with each student on a regular basis to review their clinical progress and individual patient treatment progress

+ Identify and meet with students having difficulty as needed

+ Be responsible for the attendance of students within the suite

+ Address problems of faculty, staff and students conferring with the suite CCC

+ Identify discrepancies in patient needs and patient assignments among the students

+ Oversee and help manage student portfolios; this will include number of patients in each pair, percent of patients seen in given time, list of patients not receiving care within the last month, reason for non-activity, clinic attendance, broken appointment rate and general time management

+ Along with the student, assume responsibility for patient selection and assignment of patients for students

+ Offer students guidance and direction in care of patients by monitoring data on progress and performance

+ Help CCCs with student productivity and attainment of competency

+ Advise students on professional conduct and practice management and assist the faculty and staff of their suite with solving patient-related problems

+ Meet periodically with individual students and groups of students to:

+ Review practice plan

+ Review patient resources

+ Review individual and group progress

+ Assist in establishing group goals

+ Provide the CCC information (based on meetings with students and staff) necessary to assure equitable distribution of patients based on students’ needs

+ Evaluate each student’s Professionalism and Practice Management skills by reporting instances of misconduct, patient abandonment, refusal to comply with established protocol, or disregard for the patients’ welfare first to the suite CCC and then to the Associate Dean for Clinical Education

+ Report to the CCC, then the Associate Dean for Clinical Education instances when faculty or staff attempts to correct misconduct have failed

+ Determine student compliance with departmental expectations and periodically review same with the student

+ Assist all students in assigned suite with quality patient care

+ Demonstrate clinical treatment on patients assigned to students

+ Under the direction of the CCC, attempt to equalize student learning opportunities; this may be achieved by initial input into patient assignments and by redistribution of patients within the pool of patients as well as advise on priorities, use of time, and need for new patients

+ In collaboration with the CCC, use EHR reports to inform faculty and students of the real costs of care delivery and establish realistic targets for production and collections in the spirit of sound practice management principles to enhance student education as well as clinical productivity

+ Under the direction of the CCC, conduct an entrance conference with all new students to assess patient rosters and assure a smooth transition into the clinic

+ Assure all case completions have an exit exam

+ Assure all laboratory work is sent out and delivered in a timely fashion

+ Perform other duties as assigned

+ Meet regularly with the CCC

The Department of Internal Medicine in the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM) at Midwestern University is seeking one part time (.4 FTE) Clinical Assistant Professor. This position reports to the Chair of Department of Internal Medicine of AZCOM.

Teaching

+ Participate in curricular planning and review meetings, and faculty retreats.

+ Develop, implement, and assess the curriculum as faculty in the pre-clinical courses.

+ Teach clinical lectures, including developing the associated learning objectives and examination questions.

+ Actively participate in the 4-year teaching program in AZCOM, which may include OMM labs, physical examination and ultrasound workshops, SOAP note grading, OSCE’s, and precepting in the MWU multispecialty clinic for students, Scholars, and residents.

+ Assist with training for affiliated and sponsored GME programs.

+ Assist in the development of standardized patient cases for examinations, as requested

+ Proctor/Score Osteopathic Standardized Patient Examinations, as requested

+ Assist in the remediation of students who fail OSCE Examinations and / or require assistance in preparation for COMLEX-USA examinations.

+ Assist with rotation preceptor recruitment and site visits as requested/assigned.

+ Develop/deliver faculty development and training to preceptors as requested.

Scholarly Activity

+ Actively engage in scholarly activities according to area(s) of expertise, to include osteopathic research, quality improvement projects, invited presentations at state and/or national conferences, publications, poster presentations, peer reviews, and national board question writing.

+ Serve as a Project Investigator (PI) for students and residents engaging in scholarly work.

Service

+ Mentor students requiring academic assistance and provide career counseling.

+ Attend required meetings and serve on committees as assigned, which may include meetings/committees for the University, the Department of AZCOM Clinical Education, and the Department of Internal Medicine.

+ Participate in community relations efforts to extend and enhance the visibility and reputation of the Department, the College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Midwestern University

+ Serve on state, regional, and/or national societies, agencies, bureaus, and committees of the profession and specialty or discipline.

+ Provide osteopathic clinical supervision for the community care outreach activities of Health Outreach through Medical Education (HOME), as requested.

+ Serve as advisor to student clubs as requested.

+ Participate in AZCOM applicant interviews.

+ Remain current and board certified in Internal Medicine.

Requirements:

This position, at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor, requires a DO degree, and board eligibility/certification in Internal Medicine.
